ABSTRACT

TA new species of Parastrongyloides (Nematoda: Strongyloididae), parasite of Cryptotis equatoris (Thomas, 1912) (Mammalia: Soricidae), from Pichincha, Ecuador, is described. The new species is compared with the seven species of the genus: Parastrongyloides winchesi Morgan, 1928 (Paleartic and Neartic), P. skrjabini Petrov & Savinov, 1959 (Paleartic), P. trichosuri Mackerras, 1959 (Australasia), P. perameles Mackerras, 1959 (Australasia), P. australis Mawson, 1960 (Australasia), P. chrysochloris Quentin, 1969 (Afrotropic) and P. callipygus Hugot, 1979 (Afrotropic). Parastrongyloides neotropicalis n. sp. is characterized by the shape of male's tail and gubernaculum, the different diameter of both parts of esophagous and morphometry. It is the first report of the genus in the Neotropical region.

RESUMEN

 

Se describe una nueva especie del género Parastrongyloides (Nematoda: Strongyloididae), parasitando Cryptotis equatoris (Thomas, 1912) (Mammalia: Soricidae), proveniente de Pichincha, Ecuador. La nueva especies es comparada con las siete especies del género: Parastrongyloides winchesi Morgan, 1928 (Paleártica y Neártica), P. skrjabini Petrov & Savinov, 1959 (Paleártica), P. trichosuri Mackerras, 1959 (Australasia), P. perameles Mackerras, 1959 (Australasia), P. australis Mawson, 1960 (Australasia), P. chrysochloris Quentin, 1969 (Afrotropical) y P. callipygus Hugot, 1979 (Afrotropical). Parastrongyloides neotropicalis n. sp. se caracteriza por la cola cónica del macho, la forma del gubernáculo, la clara separación de las dos partes del esófago y la morfometría. El género se señala por primera vez en la Región Neotropical
