ABSTRACT

This work documents the parasite fauna and epibionts of the hermit crab Pagurus exilis Benedict, 1892 in the estuary of Bahía Blanca (Buenos Aires, Argentina), and compares it with previous records. Of 199 dissected crabs, 2 worms: Dollfusiella sp. (Eucestoda) (Prevalence: 43%; N = 187; abundance: 0.93; mean intensity: 2) and Ascarophis marina Szidat, 1961 (Nematoda) (P: 2%; N = 187; I: 1); and a parasitic crustacean, Peltogaster cfr paguri Rathke, 1842 presenting a unique externa (P: 9%; N = 199; A: 0.08) were found. Aciliated protozoan was found in the gill cavity acting as epibionte with a prevalence of 82%; N = 187). If the taxonomic status of the rizocephalan could be confirmed, the citation of P. paguri conform the first record of its presence in the south-west Atlantic.

RESUMEN

Este trabajo documenta la fauna de parásitos y epibiontes del cangrejo ermitaño Pagurus exilis Benedict, 1892 en el Estuario de Bahía Blanca (Buenos Aires, Argentina), y la compara con registros anteriores. En 199 ejemplares disecados fueron encontrados 2 helmintos: Dollfusiella sp. (Eucestoda) (Prevalencia: 43% (N=187); Abundancia: 0,93; Intensidad media: 2) y Ascarophis marina Szidat, 1961 (Nematoda) (P: 2% (N=187); I: 1); y un crustáceo parásito, Peltogaster cfr paguri Rathke, 1842, presentando una única externa (P: 9% (N=199); A: 0,08). Un protozoo ciliado fue hallado en la cavidad branquial actuando como epibionte con una prevalencia del 82% (N=187). De confirmarse el status taxonómico, la presencia de P. paguri constituye su primer registro en el Atlántico Sudoccidental.
